August Chairman's Message

Message from the Past Chairperson

It is my pleasure to introduce the SPE Sumatra Section in the name of the SPE Board and all SPE Sumatra Members. We are very excited about the idea of having one newsletter with all other SPE Sections in Indonesia in which to share our experience and knowledge.

Pristiwanto, our current Chairperson will introduce the new board and our planned activities for this year in next month’s letter. Therefore I would like to summarize what the SPE Sumatra Section undertook last year to improve the visibility of SPE, to support local Universities and others.

The biggest event held in the beginning of 2004 was a Technology Showcase in Duri. The exhibition gave SPE members and other engineers/earth scientists an opportunity to learn about new technologies that will help in their daily job activities. This event featured more then 40 presentations related to production and facility related issues. Furthermore 13 companies presented their newest technologies in an exhibition. It was the largest SPE Showcase held in Duri and with more then 400 attendees we are sure that our objective was achieved. The money raised in the Golf Tournament that followed the Showcase is being used to support local students and two local orphanages. The other major activity that we are organizing here in Sumatra in order to share knowledge within the industry are monthly SPE Talks. These presentations are very well received and cover production facility, reservoir and economic issues.

I would like to thank the entire SPE board and all other people who were involved in making last year’s SPE event a success. Without your help we could have not done it!

We look forward to contributing to the monthly newsletter and please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions, suggestions or comments.

Kind regards,

Torsten Kritzler
